iv been doing some research online for landmarks and different iconic places within the cities im focusing on and came across this short stop motion, which lead me to think about possibly doing my own one? with lego?

 

 

 

aesthetic

i was looking around on some of the blogs i regularly follow and i was going through the links on their pages and came across Jen Collins who is an illustrator and her work can be found here (hellojenuine.com)

her work encompasses a similar aesthetic that i have been working with. with the use of hand drawn type and a simple yet effective colour scheme that often exists of pastels and muted colour.

so now..

so iv established im doing my publication based on cities and the idea of travel. sooo heres a brainstorm so citiess in the world that may appear in my publication. its a rather large list which its obvious in this timeframe i am not going to complete them all but just a hand fill. but this is where if i had unlimited time i would do this.. comes into the equation.

this is just a few on my list at the moment and from here i am going to have to cut it down to around 15ish cities to actually start making illustrations for and developing my publication from there.

just a bit of inspiration

iv been surfing the net looking for some good old inspiration and managed to find a few blogs that have fully inspired me as to what aesthetic i am wanting to go for.

All these images have a similar hand drawn/illustrated aesthetic which i believe would work well for my publication. These images are just a few out of a huggggeee amount i have collected :)

break through

When setting up and planning what i wanted to put on my wall for formative i noticed a theme throughout all my work that to im sure many people was obvious but i wasn't seeing it. so this really proves the point that once you put a wall together stand back have a look, go away for a few hours, and then come back and have another look it leads to different ideas.

I have discovered a general theme emerging throughout all my work. The idea of travel, in the form of maps, cities and landmarks. All of this should come together well for my publication :)

From this idea of 'fashion capitals' i then decided to look at landmarks within these cities that are iconic and well known worldwide..

So i was getting a little bored and felt trapped with the concept 'fashion' so i started looking at the fashion capitals around the world..

New York and Milan are considered the economic and current media fashion capitals of the world. According to the Global Language Monitor, New York came in first for five consecutive years, yet in 2009, it was beaten by Milan.

Not from an economic point of view, Paris and London are considered symbolic fashion centres of Europe due to them having long standing histories as centers of art and fashion, and being home to several highly prestigious fashion houses.

The other main centers of fashion in the world are Los Angeles, Rome, Sydney and Tokyo. In recent years, however, the importance of the fashion industry has grown in many other cities around the globe, such as Chicago, São Paulo and Sydney.

Other top fashion capitals include Barcelona, Las Vegas, Toronto, Shanghai and Dubai.

This is an example of the header off the frankie magazine website. i particularly like the use of hand-drawn imagery, and that the images are similar to those that you cut and use to dress paper dolls.
